La Nounou is a small setting of three childminders. We care for up to nine children under the age of 5 at any one time and could look after another seven over 5.

Alexandra Albery
Founder, owner and manager

My name is Alexandra Albery. I was born and bred in Alsace-Lorraine, France. I came over to England in 1995 as a post-graduate student.  I spent a year in Kent, studying about Hever Castle for my M.A.in English and History as well as working as a Foreign Assistant in a secondary school. I took so much to the English way of life that I decided to stay and moved up to London, where I worked as a teaching assistant in Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith for four years. I also gained experience in teaching primary school children through private tuition. Then I studied at the London Institute of Education and obtained a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education in teaching languages in 2001. Since then and until August 2005, I have worked in Camden School for Girls as a Modern Foreign Languages teacher. I founded La Nounou in March 2007.

I live in Chiswick with my husband, James, and our three children, Lucas (12), Thomas (9) and Julia (6). James has a real attraction to French culture and way of life. He speaks the language fluently, even if he does not think so himself. We go to France regularly as we still have family and friends there and our children are being brought up in a bilingual environment. Lucas speaks both languages equally and happily switches between them according to his audience. He has started learning German at school. Thomas is an amazing linguist. He is extremely witty and loves making puns in French and English. He is a bookworm and devours novels in both languages. He also studies Japanese. He is gifted and talented in English (and Maths!).  Julia understands that French and English are two different languages she can use to communicate the same message. She always chooses the right language for the situation and enjoys speaking French to her cousins when she goes to France. She has discovered Spanish and has a great time practising her budding knowledge with native speakers.

Laurence Ernst

Early Years practitioner

My name is Laurence and I am originally from the French speaking part of Belgium. Before coming to London five years ago, I spent five years in Australia with my husband who works in the Animation industry. I am mum to Owen, 12 and Kieran, 8. I used to do a lot of babysitting when I was younger and I have enjoyed going to playgroups with Owen. I have been working as a childminder at La Nounou for 8 years, which allowed me to work whilst taking care of my children. I am a jeweller by trade and would love to go back to it and draw jewels when my little ones are older.

Anse Gautier

Early Years practitioner

My name is Anse (Anne-Severine on the papers). I was born in Paris, France but was raised in many different countries in Africa as my father travelled a lot and my whole family were fortunate enough to follow him. I moved to England to learn the language. My original plan was to stay for 2 years and that was 19 years ago now! I have spent 10 years working in retail and e-commerce before deciding to make a change to my career and work with children as a childminder. Not once have I regretted my choice as this job has shown me over the 7 years I have been working at La Nounou that I could work in an environment full of joy and laughter and still be challenged everyday.

About childminding…

We have been registered with the Office in Standards of Education (OFSTED) since 2007.
Childminders are inspected individually and we have achieved the grade of Outstanding in all seven inspections carried out by Ofsted. The outcomes of inspections are available in reports which provide information on the strengths of our setting and any areas for improvement identified by inspectors. The judgements included in the reports are made in relation to the outcomes for children set out in the Children Act 2004 and the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. We all have certificates in childcare . The Ealing Local Authority provides us with support, advice and training. As a teacher, Alexandra has received training in accelerated learning, positive behaviour management, Special Needs, differentiation, inclusion… She also has a lot of experience in those areas. Laurence and Anse have training as well as experience in working with children.
We are mothers and have certificates in Early Years First Aid and Safeguarding Children, which we update regularly.
